In 1906, Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig had the Lehmann and Wolf architectural firm from Halle build the Keramische Manufaktur - a building influenced by Art Nouveau. Jakob Julius Scharvogel (1854-1938), one of the most important German ceramists, was the director of the manufactory.
